Project overview

I served as the overall project manager for the transformation of the historic Canterbury Hotel in downtown Indianapolis into a luxurious brand boutique hotel. The extensive 73,794 square foot remodel involved the complete renovation of 100 guest rooms, converting them into comfortable king-size beds and spacious showers. Additionally, a large open atrium was infilled to create more meeting space, while the entire first floor was transformed into a boutique restaurant. This restaurant featured a redesigned kitchen by a renowned food service designer from San Francisco. Furthermore, a new 800 square foot fitness center, equipped with the latest fitness equipment, was incorporated into the renovation.

The project was brought to fruition through close collaboration with several out-of-state designers, enabling us to meet the tight timeline. Construction drawings and construction were completed within a remarkable 12 months.

Details

During this extensive remodel, I conducted field measurements of the building and created all the construction drawings for the project. I collaborated with two renowned national interior designers: one for the tower and guest rooms, and the other for the first-floor public spaces.

My responsibilities included coordinating room layouts, creating 3D models to aid in visualization, and working with historians to secure historic tax credits. The project was fast-paced and demanded a strong working relationship with the contractor.
